Community and Industry Involvement

North Star Steel is committed to raising environmental awareness not only within its organization, but also the steel industry and the communities in which we are privileged to operate. Our strength lies in our work force – a group of individuals dedicated to maintaining and improving the commitment of their industry and the quality of the environment in their communities.

Our professional environmental staff is very active in the industry. Our corporate environmental affairs manager is the co-chair of the Environment Committee of the Steel Manufacturers Association, the primary trade association for our mini-mill industry. Our regional environmental managers serve on the Environment Committee’s air, water and waste subcommittees, and our Vice President, Environmental Affairs serves on the Environment Committee’s government relations subcommittee.

Our community projects are as varied as the places in which we operate, ranging from Mississippi River clean-ups to highway clean-ups, wetland restorations to prairie restorations, funding nature centers to funding land preservation, educating school kids to educating entire communities..
